A Beautiful part of a naming ceremony is where mentors or guardians are appointed. There are lots of words that can be said during this time but here is an example:
Mentors/Guardian Wording
Overview
It is an important tradition in our culture that at the time a child is formally named and welcomed into the community some other adults agree to take special responsibilities for her alongside her parents.
So today we will appoint four mentors for Claire chosen by her parents — people who undertake a special responsibility for her welfare
Mentors are very special people who are always available to help guide and give support and to offer loyalty and love, and to be an example to those under their care.
The Mentors– today we have Damien, Dianne, Jessica and Daniel
These four have been chosen as Nerida and Simon believe that they all have so many wonderful qualities to share with Claire over the journey of her life. Nicole and Shane hope that these people will provide Claire with guidance and support if the need was ever to arise. Mentors take a special interest in the ethical and moral development of the child. It is a serious responsibility, but one that can be very rewarding and we come now to this important part of the proceedings where I will address this question to them. Damien, Dianne, Jessica and Daniel, you have been asked to accept the privilege of becoming Mentors to Claire. Simon and Nerida ask that you always welcome Claire if she comes to you for company, advice or help and that you will listen to her and respect her confidences no matter how great or small. They ask that you show her understanding and love and let her know that she will always have a special place in your hearts. Are you willing to accept this responsibility? Reply: We do.
