Marriage
Good reading
There are many good resources relating to Marriage and Relationships. One book I am currently reading is Maybe I do - by Kevin Andrews.
Kevin Andrews highlights those factors which social scientists from all over the world believe benefit or detract from marital success, and examines the ways in which individuals, communities and governments can help to create more successful unions. The book notes that marriage remains a popular aspiration, but there is a growing divide in western nations. University educated men and women continue to marry at high rates, but marriage among the less educated with fewer assets has declined significantly. A growing marriage gap has opened up in western nations, with the well educated tending to marry each other. The less educated and poorer tend to marry less, but often have children.
Statistics on Marriage
We will regularly update this with current marriage statistics from around the world. The 121,752 marriages registered in 2011 represented an increase of 576 (0.5%) from the 121,176 marriages registered in Australia in 2010. This is the highest number of marriages registered in a single year and continues the relatively steady increase in marriages since 2001.
